Conscious approaches do not reach the subconscious. Talk therapy operates at the level of language and analysis. Willpower runs on the prefrontal cortex. Positive thinking attempts to override what the deeper system has already encoded. None of these approaches reach the layer where the patterns that actually run your behaviour live.
The subconscious operates on different rules. It encodes what was repeated, what was emotionally significant and what was learned during the developmental years. It does not respond to argument.
